Compared to Intel or AMD, Sun Microsystems has traditionally focused more on high-end, high-powered servers and supercomputers than on desktop home computers. It should come as no surprise, then, that Sun produces some of the most advanced High-performance computing (HPC) systems available. In fact, they offer not just one, but several different types of HPC solutions for different computing needs.

High performance computing uses either supercomputers or computer clusters to solve advanced problems requiring millions of calculations. Although it is most commonly associated with scientific research, recently high performance computing has been increasingly applied to business uses such as data warehousing, transaction processing and line-of-business (LOB) applications.

Sun’s most powerful HPC system is currently the Sun Constellation System, which was introduced in 2007. In consists of several different hardware and software components. At its heart lies the Sun Fire X4500 data server, which combines server and storage functions. It contains two dual-core processors and an incredible forty-eight 1000 GB SATA drives, for a total of 48 terabytes of storage. It also uses the Sun StorageTek 5800 System for its data archive for clients to store large amounts of digital information, such as medical information, digitized historical records, or rich media. It uses a customer-definable metadata index to tag, search, and retrieve information. At the bottom hardware level lies one or more Sun Blade systems, which are essentially just interface terminals for users to interact with the system.

The Constellation System runs on either OpenSolaris or Linux. It also makes use of the Sun Grid Engine, a workload scheduler for computer clusters and server farms. On the physical level, it manages and schedules the allocation of hardware resources such as processors, memory, and hard disk space. On the software level, it coordinates the scheduling, dispatching, and managing of large numbers of standalone, parallel, or interactive user jobs. The Sun Grid is also offered as a service purchasable separately from the Sun Constellation System.

Sun offers another high performance computing system, the Sun Modular Datacenter. Although perhaps not as powerful as the Sun Constellation System, is much more flexible. The Modular Datacenter (MD) is essentially a portable server farm. It is built into a standard 20-foot shipping container, and therefore can be transported to any location in the world through existing transportation networks. It is ideal for locations that lack the infrastructure to support a server farm or in situations where a data center is needed in a location only temporarily, and the customer wants to avoid having to acquire or construct a building to house one. Upon arrival, a 280-server data center can be quickly deployed and made operational for 1/100th of the cost of constructing a traditional data center building. The only drawback is that an external chiller is required to operate the Modular Datacenter.

Considering that many of Sun’s products are already in use in several of the top 500 supercomputer systems (including the fourth fastest supercomputer computer in the world), it’s fairly obvious that HPC solutions is one of the things that Sun is most interested in. While other companies can only offer one or two such solutions (if they have any at all), Sun Microsystems has several systems for customers to choose from.

Tom Kranz runs a Unix Consulting business, as well as a help site for users of Silicon Graphics computers. He specialise in Solaris consultancy and larger scale infrastructure solutions.

Multimedia-rich Web sites with many attractive graphics are cute, but often result in slow-loading Web pages. Sluggish performance definitely hurts the user experience and may even affect the position of a site in search engines. What are your options to improve the performance of a graphic-heavy site without making it look less attractive?

First, you could consider adjusting the compression settings when saving your graphics. Smaller, more compact images will load faster, but you will risk using too much compression and reducing the cleanliness of the Web site.

You could also consider using a different lossy compression algorithm such as JPEG to store images. However, JPEG is not suited to be used on images with many small details such as screen shots or texts. You can easily lose more in quality than gain in the reduction of the size if you go this route.

Finally, you could speed up your Web site by cutting large images into series of smaller pieces. Loaded concurrently, smaller graphics have the benefits of faster downloads without any loss of quality. Besides, you can use compression algorithms such as GIF to store large, full-color images without having any pixilation or rough color transition issues.

So how do you know when to take the first, second or third approach to obtain the best loading speed and the highest image quality? Trying various settings by hand is not the best idea in today’s world.

Image Splitter (http://www.imagecure.com) is designed to remove the hassle of selecting the best optimization to make Web pages load faster without making sacrifices in image quality.

Splitting image

With Image Splitter, you can easily avoid the compression artifacts introduced by lossy algorithms such as JPEG and GIF, increase the apparent visual quality of large images while reducing the total size of a Web page and speeding up its loading time at the same time. To achieve all this without Image Splitter, one would need hours of trial and error in choosing the appropriate compression methods and settings for each slice of an image. Image Splitter makes that happen completely automatically.

Image Splitter makes it easy to design graphic-heavy Web sites by automating the creation of image-based navigation and menus. The product automatically cuts images representing various navigation elements or menu items into separate pieces, and makes online hot-tracking work as fast as when off-line. Image Splitter automatically generates HTML tables with colspan and rowspan tags. Supporting a variety of Web image formats such as JPEG, GIF, and PNG, and recognizing targeted events such as ALT, TARGET, OnMouseOver, and OnMouseOut, Image Splitter is the perfect tool for any serious Web designer. If you have a large Web site with lots of graphics, Image Splitter features fully-automatic batch mode to split a bunch of images at the same time.

Creating Rollovers

Make your sites faster and your job as a Web designer easier! Visit http://www.imagecure.com for more information and to download a free evaluation version of Image Splitter.

Every few years it seems the marketing industry rediscovers the “revolutionary” concept of in-store advertising. Despite the tremendous evidence of how effective it is in guiding customer purchasing habits, most businesses continue to rely heavily on traditional television, radio and print while neglecting the interior graphics that can make a larger difference.

The Power of In-Store Marketing

Let’s say you spend a huge chunk of your advertising budget on a television commercial. It’s sexy, funny, exciting and effectively puts your product into the minds of consumers…until the next sexy, funny, exciting commercial plays. And if your commercial does change customers’ minds, it’s pretty rare they are going to race over immediately to buy your products. Every hour that passes brings more opportunities for consumers to forget about you.

Once you have a customer in your store, using interior graphics to market certain items is much more effective. When people see products they want, they can buy them immediately. There is much less chance of distraction and your advertising is competing only with more of your advertising.

Plan Your Store Layout

The power of interior graphics can be greatly enhanced or weakened by their placement in your store. The basics of advertising apply here. The more people who see your message, the more chance you have to implant your message in the minds of consumers.

It’s obvious that interior graphics advertising your products should be placed in high traffic areas such as the entryway or by cash registers. However consider the paths customers will take. A woman comes in to buy a dress. You want the path she takes to women’s clothing to take her past ads showcasing jewelry and cosmetics. If the same woman is looking for a television you want her to see ads for DVD players.

The graphics themselves should be eye-catching and well-lit. They should be placed in locations that a customer’s gaze will naturally fall as they walk through the store and browse. Remember you aren’t trying to catch the attention of people already interested in a product, but rather people on their way to some other piece of merchandise.

In-Store Advertising Supplements Traditional Methods

A comprehensive marketing plan should include many different methods of advertising in order to reach the broadest audience possible. A television campaign might advertise a particular product or sale to bring customers to the store. Once on the premises, advertising can trigger impulse buys that could substantially increase your store’s sales.

Interior graphics can provide additional information to customers curious about your products. Ad space is limited and rather than providing comprehensive information on one product, you will do better to provide just enough information on a variety of merchandise to pique customers’ interest. Once in the store, advertising can provide even more incentive to buy your products.

A graphics card is a piece of hardware installed in a computer that is responsible for rendering the image on the computers monitor or display screen. Graphics cards come in many varieties with varying features that allow for a price range that extends from about $20 US Dollars (USD) to $2,400 USD or more.

The first consideration when buying a graphics card is to be sure it is capable of displaying the best resolution the monitor can support. For LCD monitors this means supporting the native resolution.

CRT monitors do not have a native resolution. In this case, ensure the graphics card is capable of supporting the highest resolution, even if the CRT monitor will be frequently used at lower resolutions.

The term is usually used to refer to a separate, dedicated expansion card that is plugged into a slot on the computers motherboard, as opposed to a graphics controller integrated into the motherboard chipset. An integrated graphics controller may be referred to as an integrated graphics processor (IGP).

Some video cards offer added functions, such as video capture, TV tuner adapter, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 decoding, FireWire, mouse, light pen, and joystick connectors, or even the ability to connect multiple monitors.

A GPU is a dedicated graphics microprocessor optimized for floating point calculations which are fundamental to 3D graphics rendering. The main attributes of the GPU are the core clock rate, which typically ranges from 250 MHz to 850 MHz, and the number of pipelines (vertex and fragment shaders).

Video cards may use a lot of electricity, which is converted into heat. If the heat is not dissipated, the video card could overheat and be damaged. Cooling devices are incorporated to transfer the heat elsewhere. Three types of cooling devices are commonly used on video cards:

Heat sink: a heat sink is a passive cooling device. It conducts heat away from the graphics cards core, or memory, by using a heat conductive metal, most commonly aluminum or copper, sometimes in combination with heat pipes.

It uses air (most common) or in extreme cooling situations, water, to remove the heat from the card. When air is used, a fan is often used to increase cooling effectiveness.

Computer fan: an example of an active cooling part. It is usually used with a heat sink. Due to the moving parts, a fan requires maintenance and possible replacement. Enthusiasts may change the fan speed or fan for more efficient or quieter cooling.

Water block: A water block is a heat sink suited to use water instead of air. It is mounted on the graphics processor and has a hollow inside. Water is pumped through the water block, transferring the heat into the water, which is then usually cooled in a radiator.

Current GPU manufacturers:

AMD (acquired ATI in 2006)

NVIDIA

Matrox

VIA Technologies (acquired S3 Graphics in 2001)

Intel (currently only manufactures IGPs but has plans for discrete products with its upcoming larrabee)

Buying a 2D card these days would be easy enough if there were that many about to buy. Everyone seems to be concentrating on pushing the sales of the 3D Accelerators. While the price of the older 3D cards has significantly dropped in price as newer version are released.

If you already have a motherboard and dont want to get a new one then you will be looking at a standard 2D video card. You can get AGP or PCI AGP cards are in a faster port but to be honest there will be little difference between the two in these types of cards.

Makers of these 2D cards are S3, SiS, and Trident. There are others but most of them have moved on to greater things. They are just the ones I have still seen for sale. Buying online is the best way to get these cards because the large stores such as PC World do not sell them any more as there sales are not great.

Just consider the extra few pounds if you have them to get a cheap 3D card because you never know what you will want the computer for in the end. If you really cant afford it then this is your stop.

This is to be done only if you are planning on upgrading at a later date then this route may prove to be more expensive in the long run even though it saves you money in the short term.

While prices vary widely, the average gaming enthusiast is likely to be happy with a graphics card in the $150 - $300 USD range. For someone who uses a computer for more general purposes, a graphics card closer to $65 USD will likely do the job.

The Geforce 7950 GX2 is essentially a set of Geforce 7900 cards fused together in a dual core setup to fit into a single PCI slot. What we have here is SLI on a single card

If you want to buy the latest, fastest card like Geforce 7950 GX2, feel free to do so. I am sure you will have an exciting time with it. However, remember the probability that most of your PC games you currently own, probably wont even benefit from the latest cards technology.

Its just too new. This is the single issue which video card users and potential buyers need to understand. Video cards are still being released ahead of the advanced applications that support it. Manufacturers and game engineers try to coincide the releases, but this usually happens for only a few games.

Important point - While the on board video (and sound in most cases) is good ideas of you need a cheap system put together very quickly it cause one major problem that is with upgrading, you cannot just change your video card without changing the motherboard as well.

In real estate, one of the most important aspects of home sale is the curb appeal of the house in question. In marketing and retail sales, curb appeal is equally important: your window graphics or custom displays are often the first thing a potential customer sees. If they look appealing and professional, the customer is more likely to enter your store and more likely to purchase your merchandise. On the other hand, if your windows have bad large format printing or other design errors, your customers may turn away.

Luckily, with a little time, effort, and attention, you can ensure that your window displays catch the attention of potential customers for all the right reasons. When you devote time to your design and use only the best materials from the most reliable sources, all that extra is reflected in the product you get.

Tools For Extraordinary Window Custom Displays

One of the easiest ways to ensure that your custom displays are interesting and eye-catching is to use window graphics. Whether this means a series of small decals or a large full-coverage graphic, the print will certainly add visual interest.

Window graphics are particularly useful for companies selling products related to travel, or some particular discipline/sport that lends itself to panoramic photography. Many successful businesses have chosen to put window graphics on the outside of their windows, so that the design faces out onto the street. The design they choose represents an aspect of their business, tactfully advertising their services to anyone who passes by.

Large Format Printing in Window Graphics

One of the best features of window graphics is how versatile the medium is. When you are working with a picture to be put on a window, you can include text and other symbols: the technology can easily print them as well. In fact, some business owners choose to ignore traditional “graphics” in favor of large format printing products that put a relatively simple version of the company’s name onto a decal for easy placement.

Even without a graphic component, large format printing has a big impact on passerby. Big letters are attention-grabbing, and intelligent use of colors makes your message pop. Be careful to combine contrasting yet attractive colors, making them both pop while maintaining an overall harmony and enjoyable aesthetic.

Once the Customer Enters the Store

Some businesses make the mistake of creating window displays but ignoring the rest of the shop: there are no point of purchase (POP) displays, nor any interior graphics to speak of. If there is any display signage, it is typically plain and uninteresting. But no matter how many similar custom displays each company employs, they will still retain their problem. Although customers may initially be drawn in by the excellent appearance of the custom displays in the windows, once they enter an uninspired store they will leave again.

Although finding the right window custom displays and coordinating them with the rest of your store can be difficult, the rewards are well worth it: you will have an attractive setting throughout, and your revenue will increase.

DirectX is very important system component for enhancing multimedia applications capabilities and improving graphics quality. Various game platform requires directx platform to run 3d graphics objects. Also, it enhances picture display and resolution of monitor.

It provides access to the capabilities of your display and audio cards, which enables programs to provide realistic three dimensional (3D) graphics and immersible music and audio effects.

It is a set of low level application programming interfaces (APIs) that provides windows programs with high performance hardware accelerated multimedia support. Directx has high resolution graphical component to boost up speed of movement of pictures on the screen.

Moreover, it enables program to easily determine hardware capabilities of computer, and sets the program parameters to match. This allows multimedia software programs to run on any windows based computer with directx compatible hardware and drivers and ensures that the multimedia programs take full advantage of high performance hardware.

These APIs control low level functions, including two dimensional (2D) graphics acceleration; support for input devices such as joysticks, keyboards, and mice; and control of sound mixing and sound output. The low level functions are supported by these components that make up directx:

1.DirectDraw: The direct draw API supports extremely fast access to the accelerated hardware capabilities of a computers video adapter. It supports standard methods of displaying graphics on all video adapters, and faster, more direct access when using accelerated drivers.

2.Direct3D: The Direct3D API (Direct3D) provides an interface to the 3D rendering functions built into most new video adapters. Direct3D includes support for specialized CPU instructions sets, providing additional acceleration on newer computers.

3.DirectSound: The direct sound API provides a link between programs and an audio adapters sound mixing, sound playback, and sound capture capabilities. It provides this feature while maintaining compatibility with existing device drivers.

4.DirectMusic: The direct music API is the interactive audio component of directx. Direct music provides software developers with the ability to create immersive, dynamic soundtracks that respond to a variety of changes in the software environment, not the least of which is direct user input.

5.DirectInput: The direct input API provides advanced input for games and processes input from joysticks as well as other related devices including the mouse, keyboard, and force feedback game controllers.

6.DirectPlay: The direct play API supports game connections over a modem, the Internet, or LAN. Direct play simplifies access to communication services and provides a way for games to communicate with each other, independent of the protocol, or online service.

7.DirectShow: The direct show API provides high quality capture and playback of multimedia files located on your computer and on Internet servers. Direct show supports a wide variety of audio and video formats.

Marketing your business is a non-stop process. From traditional newspaper or television ads to the interior graphics of your store, customers should be exposed to your message in as many forms as possible. One often neglected medium is a store’s window graphics.

Traditional Window Graphics

Many store owners think of permanent architectural signage when they design their window graphics. They hire a company to paint the name and hours of the shop on the door then forget about it. These limited graphics provide functional information but little marketing potential. They are missing a wonderful opportunity for advertising.

Exciting window graphics can pique the interest of passing traffic. Customers who might not even notice your store can be drawn in by the visual displays that catch their attention. Even if the graphics don’t bring them in right away, they will leave a lasting impression in their minds. The next time they think of the products you offer, your store will jump into their minds.

However permanent window graphics such as paint or glass etching limit your ability to change your message as shoppers’ interests change over the seasons or as your product line evolves. You need a more versatile choice.

Posters and Banners

Stores use temporary displays such as posters and banners to change their marketing message. This allows them to advertise sales, promote holiday items, or announce new product lines. Large format printing provides bold messages that attract attention and influence consumer response.

One advantage of these displays is that they are inexpensive, allowing a store to change their window graphics frequently without breaking their marketing budget. Then again, one disadvantage of these displays is that they are inexpensive, appearing cheap and not always giving the best impression. They often don’t hold up to repeated use and are simply discarded when taken down.

New developments in window graphics have given new media that provide exciting displays at a reasonable cost.

Decals and Meshes

Window graphics printed on decals provide a bolder look that will make your store stand out from the pack. Decals can display brighter colors than paper and the sturdier material allows more intricate shapes, getting away from bland rectangular posters. Many of these materials can be peeled off and reused when needed.

Some shops are going a step further, using a fine mesh material for their custom displays that provides a one-way display. Customers outside see a full-window display but light shines through from the outside, keeping your store bright. This avoids the claustrophobic feeling large banners can create. It creates a display that is nothing like what traditional window graphics can match.

Your windows are like a huge billboard and by not using them you are missing a great opportunity to market your business and bring in more customers.

The whole SEO process can be divided among three major parts i.e. Crawlabilty, Content and Links. These three things are pillars of Search Engine Optimization and so to your sites success path.

First keep this thing in your mind that Search Engine Spiders are not all that smart. If a spider cant find content (suppose there is a broken link, for example), its programmed to end what its doing and wouldnt go look around for that great article you wrote. Its going to move on to the subsequent link and keep crawling, crawling, and crawling. Thats what it does.

So, its obvious that if a spider cant access your content then your content will not get indexed and so will never be found on search engines. Thats why crawlability is the basic and most important component of SEO and we will highlight these crawlabilty issues.

1) Screwing up Robots.txt file.

Make sure your text is like the one written as User-agent:* Disallow: It should not be like the one written as: User-agent:* Disallow: /

This mistake can drop your organic rankings drastically.

2) Too many variables or parameters in your URLs

Although Search Engines are getting better and better in means of crawling long and ugly looking links but still they dont like them. Short URLs also do get clicked more often in the result pages and they are good for crawlabilty and clickabilty.

3) Session IDs in your URLs

Search Engines straight away do not like session IDs in URLs. If you are using Session IDs then just store them in cookies rather than including them in your URLs. Session IDs can cause a single page content to be visible at multiple URLs and thus obstructing the SERPs.

4) Your site suffers from code bloat

Even though Spiders are normally good at sorting out code from content, but that doesnt mean you should make it more complex by having so much code that the content is tough to find.

5) Your navigation and internal linking

Designers and developers can be pretty creative while designing a web site but this creativity may come in the way Search Engine Crawlers. Your sites navigation build in complicated DHTML, java script code, flash or Ajax based can stop a crawler in its track.

It takes expertise to satisfy the needs and requirements of film and video professionals. Such expertise when offered with only the best of technology at the most competitive price provides a surefire advantage over the rest. People who find themselves requiring the services of a production company would do well to remember this. Requirements including HD and standard editing, streaming web applications, HD and Standard Definition Video, DVD authoring, file conversions, video duplications and others can be suitably met by companies that are manned by knowledgeable individuals and equipped with the state-of-the-art facilities.

A truly exceptional production is now possible with the various advances in technology. Creativity knows no bounds as capabilities never before imagined such as 2D and 3D graphics, Real-time HD/SD editing, HD/SD studio shooting and on-location shooting, broadcast tape duplication as well as satellite and fiber transmission nationwide are actually happening. Edit suites that contain all the powerful toolsets ably support the ability to ingest almost all professional video formats. Features such as advanced color correction, real-time motion tracking and image stabilization plus real-time moving mattes are realities that can be used by consumers to their best advantage.

Audio mixing and sound design also have their share of new technology as the sounds that are needed can be exactly reproduced. With the more reliable studios having acoustically engineered recording booths with video playback capabilities among other capabilities, producing audio can be done swiftly without sacrificing the creative aspect. All soundtrack needs have their corresponding providers under the hands of a professional.

Satellite and fiber optic transmission reach almost any part of the world. These transmissions are used to uplink both tape feeds and real-time studio origination. Feeds can come in all tape formats including D1 and Digital Beta cam. Satellites have long ceased to be top-secret devices that were used primarily for military purposes. They have become part of everyday human lives as they are used in weather reports, television transmission and even telephone calls. Print media has become timelier as transmittal of text and images to different sites become more speedy and efficient through satellites. Obviously, technology put to good use can do wonders for humans.

One company that has been fully using technology to provide excellence in their work is the Film and Tape Works. Its downtown Chicago studio comes fully equipped with HD and Standard editing rooms. The company can ably optimize client content for streaming web application. Location shooting crews are always available to go wherever required.

The Film and Tape Works is a one-stop video production and post-production source that includes editing, satellite feeds, duplication and closed captioning in its vast range of services. The company is composed of a team of seasoned professionals that are all eager to use their creative and technical expertise for the completion of a first rate production.

Corporate identity is the reflection of the whole organization. It shows the caliber of your company to the clients in an aim to earn their trust and patronage. Positive corporate identity is very essential to the success of the company.

What really is Corporate Identity?

The company’s corporate identity is the sum of everything in it. “What the company does” “its manner of doing” and other ‘factors’ determine corporate identity. Every business institution has its own identity. In short it is something that separates the company from other companies.

To be successful, a company needs to cultivate its own corporate identity so that they can leave a lasting positive impression on the customers and other investors to ensure its success.

Corporate identity can be a character envisioned by the company which can be attained through careful planning, structuring and implementation. An organization that engineers its own identity knows the importance of a positive image to attract customers and investors.

Company Logos:

Having a company logo is one of the most effective ways of establishing corporate identity. Of course the logo should be in relation with what the company is all about.

A computer learning institute should have a logo representing computers, such as monitors, CPUs, keyboard etc. Shipping companies often add horizontal lines to their logo signifying speed. Music stores usually have logo with musical instruments in it.

Company Logos are graphical representations used to advertise your service. It should be easy to be seen and understood. Be original, since logos represent your company it is not advisable to create a logo based on other company logos.

Implementing Corporate Identity:

To be successful in building a company identity, a company must implement the identity throughout the organization. The company must set standards, maybe a list of values and policies to transform the corporation into the company they envisioned.

For example a hotel wants to be known for excellence in service and hospitality. The hotel should invest in the meticulous screening of the staffs as well as the training. Staffs should be trained both in skills and attitude to provide the quality of service the hotel wants to achieve.

Consistency in the projection of corporate identity

When a company decides to strongly establish its own identity, it must be consistent in every aspect. Consistency plays an important role as it would tell clients that the company can deliver their service with the same quality every time.

For example: a pizza restaurant presents its name with the tagline “always on time”.

Of course the company will live up to that tagline as their customers would expect that from them. It is a gamble: Comply and satisfy the customers, and you will gain their support and patronage; if not you will earn a bad reputation.

The pizza company should strictly implement the “Always on time” tag line to their delivery parameter.

Companies who implement a well planned and consistent identity program will have an edge over others who do not. It is like building a good impression on clients, once you have established a certain kind of trust all you have to do is maintain it.
